Vashon Island Day Trip

We Seattleites are so lucky to be surrounded with an abundance of natural beauty. From the Cascades to the Olympics and all the islands, beaches, and parks in between ... one can find splendor in every direction. Vashon Island is one such wonder ... just a quick ferry trip across the Sound will leave you feeling transported to another world.

Here are some of our favorite spots from our day trip to Vashon (updated May 2017):

DIG Nursery, if you love plants and ceramics, then get yourself to this magical place!  Sylvia and the team at DIG offer inspiration and knowledge along with rare finds, an absolute treasure.

Nashi Orchards, using heirloom apples and Asian pears from the island, Jim Gerlach and Cheryl Lubbert are taking the perry and cider industry by storm.  Visit the orchards and taste their outstanding handcrafted hard cider and perry, incredible.  If you're lucky, you may get a tour and chance to toss the ball for Gunther, Franz, and Ursula, the resident Bouviers!

Gravy, an island favorite serving up modern American fare with Southern and French influences -- don't miss BBQ Sundays!

Bramblehouse, using the finest ingredients from local purveyors, this charming restaurant will knock your socks off.  Start your morning off with brunch or cap it with a lovely dinner, you won't be disappointed.

May Kitchen, this popular Thai restaurant is worth the trip alone, reservations encouraged.

Vashon Island Baking Co. straight up yum

Dockton Forest, with its 23 acres of hiking trails, you'll find lots to explore.  Point Robinson is another favorite for picnics and beach combing.

Bike and kayak your way around the island with Vashon Adventures, offering electric bike rentals to make those hills a breeze!

Vashon Farmers' Market, Saturdays April - October from 10 - 2

For those wishing to make a weekend out of it, check out Vashon's newest accommodations, The Lodges on Vashon .. beautifully appointed, modern spaces in the heart of town.
