hello June!

Happy June! As we scale back our offerings in the summer to take advantage of the weather, family and all the fun happening in and around Seattle - we won't leave you hanging without lots of field trips to take advantage of. Here's our list of June favorites:

Honk Fest June 1st - 3rd If you like music and marching bands, don't miss this unique festival taking place in Georgetown, White Center and Columbia City featuring players from all over the country.

Bicycle Sundays June 3rd, 17th and 24th Bring a picnic lunch and cruise Lake Washington Boulevard (closed to car traffic for the day) - one of Seattle's finest summer traditions carries on!

Georgetown Carnival June 9th noon - 10 p.m.  Experience the creative energy and fun of Georgetown - complete with circus acts, power tool drag racing, bands, food, art and spontaneous spectacles. It's sure to be a highlight of your summer!

Strawberry season starting mid-June, whether you get them at the farmer's markets or visit a u-pic stand (we love Harvold Berry Farm in Carnation but find your favorite here), take advantage of these ruby delights!

Pioneer Square Rummage Sale and Ice Cream Social June 23rd  Don't miss the chance to shop for treasures from the neighborhood's best boutiques in the Heritage Room of E. Smith Mercantile  on their final weekend (we're sorry to seem them go!).

West Seattle Garden Tour June 24th  Gather inspiration while visiting 12 different gardens throughout West Seattle ... from fruit trees and edibles to bee hives and water features, this year's gardens have it all.

Free garden classes at City People's Garden Store - ongoing  Get new skills and everything you need for gardening at this beloved neighborhood institution.

Penguins in the Desert with author Eric Wagner June 26th at the Royal Room, Columbia City  Take a journey to Argentina to learn about the Magellanic penguins of Punta Tumbo. 

Field trip inspiration:  Catch the Water Taxi from Downtown to Seacrest Dock in West Seattle, grab some kimchi fried rice at Marination Ma Kai and rent bikes from Alki Kayak Tours to cruise the boardwalk.
