Bonsai Solstice

december

Holidays here we come! Not sure if it’s aging or our fast-paced modern world, but time seems to be moving too fast. Instead of running on the holiday hamster wheel, consider playing by your own rules and not the prescribed holiday marketing agenda. Here’s how we’ll be getting merry this month…

The Beaconettes at the Sorrento Hotel December 5th Our favorite chorus is bringing their flair to the Sorrento’s star lighting — cue the glamour!

Rainbow Bingo December 8th It doesn’t get more fun than bingo, drag queens, jello shots (well maybe skip the jello shots) and raising money for the SE Senior Center! Guaranteed bawdy entertainment and merriment!

“As I See It” at AMcE Gallery artist talk December 9th Join beloved field trip leader Jan Waldon and fellow artists Daphne Minkoff and Grace Weston as they discuss their work that celebrates and reinterprets memories.

Argosy Christmas Ships throughout the month. Take part in this annual tradition around a bonfire at the beach (look for asterisk on schedule for bonfire locations).

Champagne 101 with Fat Cork Learn about these celebratory bubbles from the best, Saturday afternoons in the cave. Take it to the next level with champagne and caviar December 14th - a true indulgence with our friends at Ebb & Co.

The Muppet Christmas Carol at the Central Cinema December 8 - 13th One word, Gonzo.

Bonsai solstice December 16th Marvel at this world-renowned collection of bonsai trees at night, complete with hot cocoa, sparkle lights and holiday music.

Feast of Seven Fishes at Cora December 20th Four courses, seven fish and wine pairings ? Bring it on!

While we are champions for gifting experiences, we also love a few presents under the tree especially when it supports our local small businesses.

For the food lover: A box of apples & caramels from Collins Family Orchard (the best in the Northwest!), an oyster sampler from Hama Hama, or stock the pantry with goodies from Big John’s PFI, Persephone, or OHSUN.

For the chef: doesn’t get better than Blu Skillet Ironware, arrive early for their holiday pop-up on December 2nd or get in on the lottery December 3rd!

For the entertainer and sophisticate: Find the perfect host gifts and treasures at Orcas Paley, out of this world!

For the unusual: we can’t say enough good things about Lander Street vintage — packed with treasures and always interesting. We are head over heels for the holiday creations of Nan’s Vintage Christmas (featured in photo). We’re also excited to check out the Hosekibako (translation “jewel box”) popping up next door to the Panama Hotel. While you’re in the neighborhood, do not miss Kobo at Higo (amazing!) and Sairen.

Makers Markets: we’re intrigued by the Bad Apple market (December 2), Old Chaser Farm on Vashon (December 9th/10th), and In the Shed (December 16th).

We wish you the merriest!
