how is your heart? slow stitching with aimee hagedorn September 6th afternoon
Join us for an afternoon of mindful slow-stitching with Kansas City-based textile artist Aimee Hagedorn. Originally created as a community project for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, this hands-on embroidery workshop is centered around a simple but meaningful question: How is your heart doing at this very moment?
Using a needle, thread and simple embroidery techniques, field trippers will begin stitching small, individual pieces as a way to check in with ourselves and each other before passing along to their neighbor. In this communal round robin, each piece will carry a quiet record of our collective attention — a visible reminder that we are never stitching, healing, or reflecting alone.
No embroidery experience is needed for this workshop and all materials provided. Come ready to stitch, share and reflect.
Aimee Hagedorn took her first sewing class at the age of eight to make clothes for her Barbie dolls, sparking a lifelong passion for creating beauty with fabric and thread. When she is not teaching or dreaming up ideas for her signature embroidered heart patches, she works as the library clerk at her local elementary school. Aimee's work can be found both online and in retail stores in Seattle (the dreamy Orcas Paley), Aspen, and Kansas City.
