Come paddle through the wilds of Lake Washington to learn about the aquatic mammals, migratory birds, and reptiles that call the UW Arboretum home.  There's stories of voracious invasive species, urban infrastructure gone horribly wrong, and Duwamish sacred grounds to tell.  We'll discuss the physiological adaptations of water plants and which species are particularly palatable along the way.  No paddling experience required! Canoe rental included with registration.

Shawn Behling is a plant physiology PhD student and instructor at the University of Washington. She loves investigating how plants deal with the troubles other organisms can just move away from.  She is a scuba diver, an artist, an amateur silversmith and a lover of all things photosynthetic.
